ROYAL ACADEMY of ARTS - Burlington House, Piccadilly, London
Yesterday I visited the David Hockney exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts (see Instagram post for my comments on the WONDERFUL display of work) which I adored. However, I equally fell in love with the building - which is housed in the main wing of the impressive Palladian style Burlington House.
Turning off Piccadilly, through the arch and into the courtyard and I feel like I’m walking into a cloud or cocoon of soft, buoyant energy…into a soundscape of quietness, excitement and reverence.
Burlington House is home to five world leading societies and its history is so interesting…which reflects in how ‘pure’ it is energetically. I was naturally only able to visit a few rooms, and no doubt there is a lot of spirit activity in places, but this does not detract from its overall energetic presence (inc powerful and strong protective presence on the roof and all boundaries).
Entering the Academy, the building is beautifully adapted with a quietly harmonious yet ‘even’ energy. Large enclosed rooms, with a lot of through-flow, and still energetically clean (which is very impressive). Rooms of sanded floorboards reminiscent smelling of old school rooms, a feeling of creativity at infancy through to masterpieces which leave you speechless. As home to the school of art, you can tangibly feel the inspiration and history - almost cup it in your hand.
As to the land, I could feel the greenness underneath - untarnished land, protected over the centuries, with no need to ‘prove’ itself. (Looking on Wiki, it was previously a country lane - and this can be felt). It has a humbleness and yet proud of its ability to welcome, with ease, its numerous visitors. A reminder a world-stage can be subtle and characterful: a place where genius would choose to hang out :)
So much I could say - do look up the history of both Burlington House and the Royal Academy. With beautiful restaurants and cafes, it’s a wonderful oasis of old and new, traditional and modern, world-leading and easily accessible, reassuringly safe and creatively provoking - all reflected energetically.
