PALL MALL to WHITECHAPEL, London

I had a fascinating day today. ‘Let’s go for a walk,’ he said (my spirit guide, that is). ‘I want to show you some places, for research and the book,’ he said. ‘Pall Mall to Whitechapel. On Monday.’ (My mind instantly goes to the Monopoly board). That’s a long way, I say. ‘You’ll be fine’. And so today, Monday, we set off.

Being guided is fascinating. A aspect of being an energy channel. Stepping into the unknown, yet feeling completely safe. It’s an adventure. First stop on exiting Green Park Station, and I’m guided in front of an odd building down a side road. On inspection, it’s the Royal Over Seas League. I immediately get my phone out, yep, it’s recorded him having been here when alive. Next stop, St James, Crown Passage and surrounding streets as he tells me he used to frequent the area. He feels completely ‘at home’, a familiarity and excited confidence. He stops me outside the Royal Automobile Club. ‘I would visit here’. ‘Lots of these buildings around here,’ he says. ‘Let’s go down here….I’ll show you the gardens we would take a smoke in’ as we go to the rear of the Reform Club. I’m fascinated.

Our walk takes us through Charing Cross, towards Holborn. He mentions publishers and literary conversations. I’m stopped in front of Basset Chambers (he visited a friend there), Gray’s Inn, areas of Bloomsbury. Farringdon, Shoreditch, back roads here and there, all the while, gently guided. ‘Take a note of this street name,’ he would often say. ‘It will give context for our work’. Eventually we reach Whitechapel, where our walk ends. My feet ache, and my hands are itching to Google all the places.

Mostly, I can’t wait to get back to our writing tomorrow…a book I am writing with my guide, the Spirit of Rudyard Kipling.

What a privilege.

What a Monday.
